Green Issues

Here at 'No Place' we take Green Issues seriously and are doing our bit to lower our carbon footprint and that of the business. Below are some of the issues we have addressed and some plans for the future:

  • Our food is freshly prepared using British seasonal fruit and vegetables although, wherever possible, we source the produce locally, within the South West - our aim is to keep down the air miles and provide 'garden fresh' food.
  • Where possible our food is organic but we must temper this with availability and cost. What we do not wish to do is unnecessarily raise our charges to our customers just for the sake of the organic label, for instance serving 'organic' green beans from Africa when local beans are available or New Zealand apples in the autumn when English are available.
  • Locally reared meat and bacon provided by our butcher and his own make quality sausages are all that we utilise.
  • We serve regional dairy products in and with our meals including Devon cheese, milk and cream. Additionally, we make our own bread.
  • Composting of kitchen waste and other biodegradable waste.
  • Recycling through the Devon County Council scheme.
  • All our light bulbs are low voltage.
  • Our 'Clearview' wood burner utilises our own home produced wood cut from year to year.
  • Tilly, our Dartmoor pony tenant produces manure for the garden.
  • We have our own well, springs and stream for watering the garden.
  • Two solar tube arrays are installed on our roof to provide plenty of hot water
  • In the winter of 2008 a biofuel boiler will be installed for all spatial heating of the house. This will burn wood from our land.

We believe we have a responsibility to help maintain our planet and not needlessly contribute to the mountains of waste generated by society. We consider this not to be a glib gimmick but a concept that makes sense. It also allows us to maintain an excellent service to our guests at a competitive cost.
