Henry Williamson referred to this marvellous countryside
as the Land of the Two Rivers in his engaging story of Tarka
the Otter.
Our locality is high ground set between the rivers of the
Torridge and the Taw, and close by provides views of both
Dartmoor and Exmoor, both within easy reach.
We are near to the civil war town of Great
Torrington, which is home to world famous Dartington
Crystal, where guided tours of the factory enable visitors
to watch the highly skilled craftsmen blowing and shaping
the crystal into beautiuful designs. The Dartington Crystal
Factory Shop is the biggest glass shop in the country.
The Royal Horticultural Gardens at Rosemoor
- which are situated approximately 3 miles from "No Place"
and the 1646 Visitor Centre, commemorating the Battle of Great
Torrington, which marked the end of the Royalist resistance
in the West Country and led to the eventual defeat and execution
of King Charles I - are a "must see" for visitors to Torrington.
The town also affords an access to the 180-mile long Tarka
Trail, which is intended primarily for the long distance
walker and cyclist, although it is of value to anyone interested
in more leisurely recreation. The rugged and picturesque North
Devon coast is best viewed from the South
West Coastal Path, which may be easily reached by car.
Gill and George enjoy opening 'No Place' to company and are
committed to ensure a homely and friendly welcome.
We have greeted guests from all over the UK and overseas and
insist that our visitors treat the facilities we offer as
they would their own home.
We have enjoyed meeting all our guests - and although they
have arrived as guests they have left as friends!
Whether visiting family in the area, enjoying the many gardens,
coast and countryside, cycling, walking, theatrical and craft
events, attending courses, festivals, archaeology, adventure,
house hunting or business - whatever brings them to North
Devon - all are guaranteed a warm friendly welcome.
Using their own knowledge and experience Gill and George
can provide information for guests, supplementing the printed
tourism leaflets provided. They can suggest a plan for the
day to help guests navigate their way through the picturesque
North Devon countryside and if required help with the loan
of a map. With a little notice packed lunches can be prepared.
